I am now able to make the GSM module function in full operation. This video shows the capability to send SMS.
This uses the MTSMC-G-F4-ED.R1 GSM module from Multitech.

Hello,

There is always a chance that some component leads or pads or chip-die it self gets effected by the presence of moisture. This causes malfunction or poor soldering. That's the reason the manufacturers ask for pre-bake step. However for hobby use you can apply a bit more flux and the things can get soldered easily. Also use high quality fluxes which have good reducing capabilities.

i actually built a datalogger unit with PIC18F452 which communicates with a gsm module and sends SMS periodically. The PIC i used was fairly sufficient for the project i am working. What i am curious about is that why did you use PIC32 for this project? Is there any other thing that PIC is working on other than sending commands to the module? Thanks for your answer. (I know that the video is kinda old and the question i am asking may be irrelevant but i'd be happy if you answer)

Hello! Great vid!! I bought a pic32 from mouser. The packaging says it's moisture sensitive and it needs to be pre baked before reflow. Do you think the microcontroller will actually get damaged if I dont't pre bake it? Also what if I'm thinking of soldering it with an iron?? Thanks!!
