Can i use strippers/wire cutters to cut strings and a long nose to pull out pins?

do i have to cut the old string ?? the reason why i change mine, is that i dont wanna have matal ones but plastic. Maybe some day i'd like to use these metal ones.

i spend about 1-2 hours getting the pins out of my guitar using a steel pin puller. the pins on my guitar were jammed in so tight i nearly broke the pins and guitar.
