89 year old woodworker, Max Sisk, shows us how to make a segmented bowl from start to finish at the January meeting of the Rutherford County Woodworkers, North Carolina
The camera, man is doing a very good job, and Mr. Max Sisk, is like 19 year, man. I here some other men is there tell how they do it, do you think they could make a video, show how they do it and let Mr. Max Sisk, show us the way he likes to do it. You all are very good men for taking the time to make this video, I thank all of you.
@johnrheyd Thanks for your question. Max glues a top on the bowl merely to add another layer/color and he feels that it givesit a prettier finish and it adds some symetry to it as well. You do not have to do this but he feels it gives you a nicer job on the finished product. purely a personal choice. he glues the top on, after it has dried he then drills a hole in the top near the edge and he cuts the center waste out of the top with a jigsaw before it goes to the lathe. hope this helps
Does anyone know why Max is adding a solid piece to both the top as well as the bottom of his bowl? He doesn't say why - I can understand the bottom but why the top? When he turns the bowl - does he then cut through the solid piece? Who ever made this needs to be more specific.
