The demand for improvements in the specific capacity (milliamp-hours per gram of material) of lithium-ion batteries is being driven by our need for feature-rich consumer electronics, electrified vehicles and smart grid applications. Until now, however, the battery industry has not been able to keep up with this demand. The specific capacity of lithium-ion batteries over the last 30 years has only been doubled on average every 12 years.

Nanosys, Inc. has broken this mold through the use of its proprietary SiNANOdeā„¢ lithium-ion anode material -- improving the specific capacity of lithium-ion batteries by more than double in a single step -- while at the same time providing breakthrough charge-discharge cycle life improvements.
