A video of my dad soldering copper pipes together underneath a 50-year old house...takes a lot of work to get to the fun part!

Edit: This is not intended to be a how-to/instructional video.

  • This video confused me. Title reads "Soldering copper pipes (actually tubing) w/ presoldered joints" What I am lost by is why not use conventional fittings if your planning to use roll solder anyway?

  • @Mindstay

Well, my dad never used presoldered fittings before and wanted to try them. He was not confident that they would hold and decided to add more solder from a roll rather than have to go buy conventional fittings (especially when you're under a house, you just want the job done).

  • that was a good demo, how to fuck up your plumbing system, take all the solder outa ta pre soldered joint, and then how to try and put it in again while the joint is still to hot!

How can anyone put a video like this on the net with the title "How to"

    Numpty!

  • @djyul

I did not personally categorize this in the "how to" section, and have no idea how it ended up there!

  • this guy is the worst "plumber" i have ever seen

  • That is very bad plumbing. Shut off the main water, bleed the pipes, cut the bad joint out, clean the ends of the old and new pipes, etc, etc, apply flux, put togetter, heat the pipe till solder can start the melt, then take away heat and let the heat from the pipes melt the solder. The solder will flow around the joint by itself. Then clean off residue.

  • A great demonstration of bad DIY!!!!!

  • why do people care so much if ur dad used extra solder all it's gonna do is drip off the pipe, a good solder joint does not need to look good it needs good penetration of the solder i have never seen a joint fail from excess solder. I can make a nice looking solder joint in ideal conditions but working in a 3 ' crawl space under a house like that i might not have done much better myself!

  • Jesus Christ! You all walk on water? ease up on dude every video is a learning exp. for us all. THANX FOR UPLOADING SIR. FUCK THE HATERS! But thanks for warning me too guys. :P

  • AGAIN.. this is why us plumbers get paid so much. Home owners install stuff like this and then call us to come fix their disasters.

  • if they're presoldered fittings why the hell is he soldering them, plus your dad sucks at soldering

  • Intersting, 1 and a half times the amount of solder you actually need and you add more, plus keeping the heat on the pipe the whole time??? Are you actually a plumber or someone doing DIY?

  • I guess it would take some getting used to but i would rather use the old style and know just how much solder i got in a joint. Thanks for sharing this video.

Not the best in the world. BUT...

If I was to bother to make a video it would be done properly ....showing the preparation, procedures, technical information, tips, limitations and advice on using that particular product. I am not a plumber but have been doing my own plumbing for 40 years, including wiping lead joints. If you do actually need info on plumbing I am more than happy to help.
