In this first ski lesson of the Ski School Intermediate series, Ski Instructor Darren Turner introduces Parallel turns and explains the first steps to learning to ski them. The next lesson will go on to the clutch / accelerator exercise, the next step on your path to being a confident parallel skier.

Watch out for the rest of the Intermediate series, download the apps, and remember for your safety that they are a supplement, not a replacement to on-slope tuition with a qualified ski instructor. If this skiing lesson is too basic for you, check out the Advanced apps and YouTube series, if it's still a little bit beyond you, try the Beginners series and Apps.

  • In my opinion you are the best digital ski teacher!!! Greetings from Holland.

  • @QJMEDIA Thanks very much I hope it helped, hello to Holland.

  • hi thank you for the helpful videos. i just have a question:

when i ski and find that my speed is out of control i tend to throw myself and fall to stop speeding. i tried what you said on controlling the spped of the turn after the turn is over but i still can't seem to shake this tendency, to throw myself on the ground whenever i feel i am speeding. can you give me any advice about this? thanks and much appreciated.

  • @MrMicho737 Try rotating your feet at the start of the turn don't rotate the whole body just the feet ,as you flatten the skis at the start of the turn feel the rotation of the skis and progressively built an edge don't throw the body turn the feet.

  • Your skiing videos are waaaaaay better than expert village. Pretty good tuts mate.

  • @TheSasageRat Thanks! Lots more where they came from, so keep an eye on the channel, also do check out our apps for iOS, Windows Phone 7 and Symbian!

  • Tks, really helped me!

  • @wafflestudent We do have a video lesson regarding fore/aft balance coming soon. It is aimed at more advanced skiers but the information and advice will remain useful for a good parallel skier.

  • Great videos! Just wondering if you had any good exercises for basic parallel skiers to work on their fore/aft balance? Thanks.
