I am taking NO credit for this song. Needs to be heard so I collaborated this video which required absolutely no talent! Tot ziens!

Because the Origami
8in8
Amanda Palmer/Neil Gaiman/Ben Folds/Damian Kulash

http://music.amandapalmer.net/album/nighty-night

Because the Origami didn't work
We gave you dancing lessons
Because the dancing lessons made you bored
We bought you a guitar

Because you said it made your fingers sore
We found you a pony
Because the pony broke your leg and ran away
We got you drums

But the drums annoyed our neighbours so
We gave you cooking lessons
And the cooking lessons made you fat
We bought you running shoes

If you hear this
please
We love you Tommy
We know it never was
about Origami

Because you took the shoes and ran away
We gave them your description
Now we haven't heard a thing in weeks

Because we don't know where you are
We're putting out this song
Because we think that you might hear
And know where you belong
So what did we do wrong?

If you hear this
please
we love you Tommy
Please come home we've
left your room
Exactly
Exactly

And if you ever hear this song
Know we send our love
Take your origami skills
And make a paper dove
Send a message home
We promise not to teach you
We don't care what you've done
We hope that this will reach you..

If you hear this,
please
We love you Tommy
We won't ask you
anything
We won't be angry

  • I was so fucking depressed today, and finding this song completely turned my day around. That's something only amanda palmer can do..and I knew it was her voice right when it came up on stereomood. Oh. My. God.

  • Whilst reading all the people who wrote 'it made me emotional' I thought "Bah humbug!" - until near the end, when it smashed through my icy shell like a freight train of emotion. Good stuff.

  • this

  • @GarthAlgar567. To me her voice is quite perfect actually. I'd rather not hear another christina aguilera or beyonce or mariah carey or what have you for this particular voice part. She sings it in the exact way that makes it actually reach my heart.

  • What a beautifully real song for the day. I found myself looking at it as a modern version of The Who's character Tommy. In this case there's no boy left deaf, dumb, and blind. He's gone - With a mortally chilling sense of never coming back. And after "they" left his room "Exactly" you could taste the precision of finishing the thought with the line "like Origami". But it was perfectly never spoken.

  • I LOVE this song. It was written in only a few hours for the Rethink Music Conference in response to the question: A way that love goes wrong?

  • is it me... or this songs sounds like IN BETWEEN DAYS from The Cure? :O

  • This song now belongs in my TOP favorite best if of history in the whole wide world. Can't expect less when two of my favorite musicians make a duo. :)
