  • Not the bombing loads, not the American war budget deficit, even not the tough Vietcong spirit ended the War, the decades of wild destruction…It was … the film camera!

As child in the 50ties, I saw photos in Life and Paris Match magazines with rows dead bodies of Vietcongs in strange dark grey suits, presented as alien monsters. Increased killing numbers made us feel safer against a mysterious, unknown Asian danger. In the 60ties, cameramen risked their lives filming whitin the frontlines...

  • ...Later they filmed behind the lines, basic civilian emergency surgeries. We saw Vietnamese victims as normal sweet and suffering humans on the meanwhile popularised television sets. Daily, every late night we got an increasing load of horror; children, women and men with extreme wounds, mutilations… dehumanization, and even as European outsider, we felt guilty, very guilty…

The resistance inside, in the West, USA and Europe, stopped the war…

It was the resistance in our mind. MM
