@bahleaballerina Why should he die a painful death? He was merely doing as nature dictates, finding food. Just like every other animal in existence. As it happened, that dog is small enough to be food for pretty much any predator out there. Coyotes, wolves, cougars, almost any bird of prey. Should they all die painful deaths simply for trying to feed themselves or their offspring? Just because it's someone's pet doesn't exempt it from the food chain or other dangers if it's running loose.
