Bo Derek - The blonde sphinx

She was my very first platonic love as a little kid, back in early '80s, when her photos were literally all over. I still remember so well how much I got captivated by her extraordinary face, even without having had a previous notion of what is culturally considered as beautiful or not. All I knew was that the woman looking from those pictures had to be really special. It would have passed by a couple of decades till the moment I finally got to watch "10" (1979) for the very first time, and despite the few minutes she's on screen, I realized the feeling was still there! Ever since, my interest in the stunning Bo Derek has been renewed all over again, and I started to like and admire her even more once I heard she had become an environment's and animal rights' activist.

Nowadays, her stunning, fascinating face still remains absolutely magical to me, and certainly evokes thousands of marvelous memories from my childhood. Now, as an adult, I'm aware that there are several kinds of beauties, but -for me- Bo Derek's face represents better than anyone else's what I consider a perfect classic beauty.

Derek was born Mary Cathleen Collins in Long Beach, California.

She is of Irish, German, Dutch and Welsh descent.

I have always loved her big expressive blue eyes, and high cheekbones.

She has always looked youthful and angelic to me and that is a real beauty.

I never found Bo beautiful. I generally wouldn't say that, since I think it's mean, but since most find her beautiful, I will say it to illustrate a point. For me, Bo is beautiful where it matters - on the inside. Her work with animals & the environment show her inner beauty. Outer beauty is a matter of opinion and since she's not my type (I like the Salma Hayek, Monica Belluci type), Bo Derek's looks don't do it for me. However, her inner beauty, the most important kind, is beyond dispute.
