I did study in Sunderland for my MSc. Honestly, I would not advise anybody I know to go there. The place is very not inspiring at all. There are little or no qualified lecturers. I guess its because of the city's historical background for building ship and fishermens town. Its all a lie about some studies they offer. Sunderland's Computing school is just a crap, No good or great teaching staff and Lab. Above all the locals are very friendly and racial.

I am graduating from the University of Sunderland in July 2009 and really enjoyed the experience. My lecturers were all experts in their fields (with some having published textbooks), also the facilities were very good (Tom Cowie lecture theatre, Murray library). I received a fantastic education and would definitely recommend Sunderland University.

If you put in for a transfer early you have more of a chance - if you delay you can end up being stuck there.
Here's a little bet - in the first few weeks you will experience chaotic admistration - they really are clueless. NEVER EVER EXPECT AN APOLOGY FOR ANYTHING. and remember this is costing you thousands upon thousands of pounds.....I worked hard and got nothing but one kick in the teeth after another by incompetent staff.
Do not bother giving them a chance.

Just to expand a little. I dont want to upset new students - I just want people to know how bad this dump is. I strongly advise you to transfer as soon as you can. You may be getting advice to "see how it goes".
This would be an error - it's what i did after a few months of misery in my first year - i made friends and didn't really want to move on because of that - it was a HUGE mistake - things never got any better, just worse and worse.
