The Twilight Zone (S3 Ep76) Original airdate: Nov 24, 1961

Set during the American Civil War, it opens with two Confederate soldiers. They have been assigned to scout on the Union army that is marching into the valley below. Sergeant Joseph Paradine hears the army approaching but suddenly the sound stops. He decides to descend into the valley to see for himself but his companion refuses to come..

(opening narration) The time is 1863, the place the state of Virginia. The event is a mass blood-letting known as the Civil War, a tragic moment in time when a nation was split into two fragments, each fragment deeming itself a nation. . . This is Joseph Paradine, Confederate cavalry, as he heads down toward a small town in the middle of a valley. But very shortly, Joseph Paradine will make contact with the enemy. He will also make contact with an outpost not found on a military map - an outpost called the Twilight Zone..

  • This was written by the late, great Manley Wade Wellman. Former Weird Tales writer who wrote this Twilight Zone episode and one from Night Gallery. I met him back in the mid70s while in North Carolina.

  • @warlaker one of the hardest ever,lol

  • @starmanskye The greatest television show of all time: the best there is, the best there was, and sad to say, the best there ever will be. We shall not see its like again.

  • @RPenta -- A chilling example that the mass-media/public-education grand-deception dumbing-down of America has been working to stunning effect, exactly as the ruling-elites, technocrat fascists and humanitarian autocrats intended. Such a shame that the provocative, critical analytic and insightful plots that story-teller/producers like Serling wrote encouraging people to think and feel deeply can't be understood or appreciated by the majority of people today, who prefer propaganda.

  • Ha ha, the copywriters, keep taking them down, but they just end up there again. Its teasing viewers when they take only one part down instead of all it. Like tormenting a puppy

  • I sure wish I had that Book!!~ I could keep my wife QUIET!! then screw her then~wake her up!!~ahahahaha!!!~we shall see!! who,s the BOSS!!!!!~:}

  • Rod Serling Occupation Writer, Time Travler

  • The anti war themes of several of these episodes would make it very dubious this could have been made in more recent years, and after 9/11 forget about it.

  • No embed code??? That sucks. Moving on to someone that will share....
