i am a converted snowboarder loving every minute of skiing, never skied on straight skis, but still, i had trouble at first to make use of my uphill ski. i knew my style must be inefficient (Stem) so i asked around, the answer = pivot-slide turning. this is the style that the cool people use where they keep their boots and knees close and "throw" their hips into it.

after practicing this style i found i was finally able to ski on my UPHILL SKI ONLY! and it is SO MUCH FUN.

  • I see people saying things like "why would they teach you to weight your inside ski? that is so wrong"

I don't know if you noticed but, if you see any picture of someone skiing properly, they are throwing snow from BOTH skis.

the thing that is "so wrong" is when they teach you to ski they say "do your pizza then unweight one foot to turn."

  • Urška Horvat from Slovenia

  • Edging heavily/ equally on the outside edge of the inside ski seems to be part of the new racing technique born of the new parabolic skis. Having learned old style of weighting heavily to the outside ski, it's been an adjustment that I haven't quite figured out; but it's a pretty cool feeling when I get it right. Used to fear catching the edge of the inside ski and going into the trees. If i get it right, however, it's like zoom ... pretty cool for an old dog.

  • a great series, really helped me a lot! but.. what's her name again??

  • ill be stuck? don't think so. i have been skiing on one ski a lot but i think that i understand this clip now. its important to practice this so your legs go parallel and you balance your weight correctly on them.

  • most real pros do just that. its a key technique which if you dont master you'll be stuck forever on the intermediate level

  • Who knows why they teach that? That is why they are Pro.

  • yeh all of their vids give you drills that do that

  • Wrong? I think it´s just for get fun, like jumps or something else.
