Russia is still an empire. It keeps many non-Russian peoples by force, for example Chechnya, Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Tuva, etc. It is inevitable that Russia will disintegrate into many smaller countries the size of Greece. This will allow Russians to build democracy because there will be multiple ways to develop society, not just an authoritarian way.

@goldstep999 what about the demography in russia? the ethnic russian population sinks every year, while more and more muslims are in the country, now maybe even 15%. this is russias biggest problem, by far. the ressources will not help russia to solve it.
