Imagery for this video is sourced from photos/scans (jacket/cover, labels etc) of my original Canadian vinyl 1st pressing of Vos Voisins - "Holocauste à Montréal" (1971) Polydor 2424 048. This original version of the LP is quite rare. The album was reissued a few weeks after its initial release with entirely different cover art-work because of the backlash brought about by its mockery of a then popular trashy underground local magazine "Allo Police", not to mention poking fun at the "The October Crisis" related photos that made the headlines only months earlier. This was an historical Canadian event that took place in October 1970 in which Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau declared Martial Law by invoking the War Measures Act to combat the FLQ (Front de libération du Québec), who were a Quebec terrorist organization. They had been involved with kidnapping British Trade Commissioner James Cross and murdering Quebec Labour Minister Pierre Laporte. They were also responsible for detonating 95 bombs at various public places in and around Montreal between 1963-70.
The record company thought it best to change the album cover artwork, and the LP was reissued as Polydor 2424 147. It looked like this:

Please read band bio below for more info.

Vos voisins biography:
Keyboardist J Perron and drummer P Ringuet had worked together with local celebrities and then with Les Enzymes (L Forestier and Y Deschamps) before hooking up with Guitarist Vallieres and bassist Parenteau and making Vos Voisins (your neighbours). The group made a huge scandal with the releases of their debut (and sole album) with its artwork depicting the scandal news paper "Allo Police" (one of the trashiest ever "newspapers" to ever exist on Earth) and their album had to be taken away from the record shelves after a week or so due to lawsuits... Well the group survived it by changing their artwork and album name, as soon as they could, but failing to capitalize on their "coup", even though one track Monstre De La Main got quite a bit of radio airplay. Needless this original artwork album is worth a small fortune. Musically the standard prog quartet developed an organ-driven hard prog laced in with plenty other influences, with drummer Ringuet and keyboardist Perron writing all the music, but getting extra help for the lyrics. Historically important for Quebec's scene, their hard rock (at times King Crimsonic/Procol Harum-ish). Vallières would be later in Ville Emard Blues Band.

Bio written by Hugues Chantraine.

  • @donottawaguitar

Lol...quite sure that same radical put ketchup on his poutine as well ;)

Glad you enjoyed! Have a Happy Thanksgiving long weekend!

  • Yes...I lucked out while browsing through a crate of records at a garage/rummage sale in Winnipeg several years ago. The seller had a $1.00 price tag on this LP! I've seen this LP fetch big bucks in recent years, upwards of a few hundred dollars or more depending on condition. I own the 2nd pressing (with different cover artwork) as well, which is also demanding fairly big bucks amongst collectors:)

    Cheers!

  • @drprogensteinphp Hi, I am Andre the bass player of Vos Voisins.... Seems that the whole planet is enjoying our work after 40 years.... I really enjoyed your comment with that one dollar LP in Winnipeg.... It made me tought before I had a whole box full of this record that nobody wanted.... but I still got one of the original first five that they gave us when it was released....!

  • @alzhammer1

Hi Andre...pleased to meet you! Thanks for checking out, and commenting on my video of your great band! I've been a fan of this LP since first hearing it all those years ago :)

The original copies are getting quite scarce. However, I have seen several of the reissued pressings (different cover art) floating around the web, and at shows over the last few years.

    Cheers!

  • @drprogensteinphp I had a box full of these ( mints ) and gave them all away... The part of your video with Trudeau dancing really knock me off....but really, we were not thinking in any way of that separatism stuff when the songs were recorded....I had the idea of the Main Monster after somebody I knew had to moove because his house was demolished to be replace by new building appartements.... I gave the idea to Sabourin and that's what he did with it.... Thanks a lot, very good work..!

  • Very Cool Stuff, Thanks for the Post.

  • Good stuff.........enjoyed it, thanks!!

  • Ah yes, Dr. Groovy Guru, again something from the early 70's but so very fresh to my old ears. That was a tasty treat indeed that I immensely enjoyed. All 3 tracks were top notch, especially Le Monstre De La Main. The bass-line grabbed me up and almost had me throwing down the \m/ \m/ as I cranked up the volume. Very nice.

Thanks for the share Dr. Guru...hugs to Prof. GreenEyes from the SAV....Peace
