  • Just wondering, if I'm not mistaken the optic nerve (2nd cranial nerve) comes from the diencephalon, Isn't it?

  • Hi.. yes, although it comes from the optic chiasm, which is located in the region of the diencephalon, the actual nerve is NOT associated in any way with the diencephalon. NO cranial nerve comes from the diencephalon.. the earliest cranial nerve that comes from the brainstem is CN3, and that comes from the midbrain.

  • I think some viewers should remember to take into consideration that these wonderful gems are NOT officially published materials and one should take what they can from them. Its really boring reading the nitpick comments of some people. The phrase "put-up or shut-up" springs to mind.

    Beautiful work Walid.

بارك الله فيك يا وليد.اِننا نفخر بك كثيراً و جميعاً.

Hmmm... I don't think it's part of the brain... 2nd CN = optic nerve, which goes straight into thalamus.

  • you dint mention the second cranial nerve ,to which part of the brain does it belong?

  • Hello,i ' m from thailand. i ' m undergraduate faculty of dentistry.i really appreciate ur explanation and beautiful drawing.thx very much...")

  • the telencelphalon and diencephalon are derived from procephalon, myelencephalon and myelencephalon are derived from rhombocephalon..is that right?

  • You have just made my day! ...and my semester of neuro a lot easier.

Your tutorials are just fantastic. Have you considered teaching?

  • @hyperhighs So just to be clear. The Optic Nerve comes off of the midbrain which is part of the Mesencephalon or is the optic nerve part of the Telencephalon?

  • Interthalamic adesion does not comunicate the two thalamus. They just contact but the fibres don´t pass by the adesion..

  • which one is the 2nd cranial nerve associated with?
