"Sol de inverno" ("Winter sun") was the Portuguese entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1965, performed in Portuguese by Simone de Oliveira.
The song is in the chanson style, popular in the early years of the Contest. de Oliveira takes the role of a woman whose lover is ending their relationship, and tells him how she feels. She compares her situation to that of the winter sun, singing that she has "no warmth".
The song was performed twelfth on the night, following France's Guy Mardel with "N'avoue jamais" and preceding Italy's Bobby Solo with "Se piangi, se ridi". At the close of voting, it had received 1 point - Portugal's first in Contest history - placing 13th in a field of 18.
Unfortunetly, this contest always get low points for Portugal, and I don't know why because we had some of the best perfomances for many years! Look for Carlos Paião, for Amália Rodrigues, Rita Guerra, Mariza and many, many others singers and performers...

Kathy Kirby and Simone de Oliveira were the best singers, and this portuguese song deserved a higher place in this contest. And it's interesting to compare these two singers. Here in the youtube you can see a video by Kathy singing "My only love" and also a video by Simone de Oliveira singing that same song in a portuguese cover... awsome voices both!

@jasonptify I suppose casanova was talking about vocal performance... And it's clear that France Gall barely knows how to sing compared to Simone de Oliveira or Kathy Kirby!

@casanovavbh .. well thats why its called a song contest not a performance contest

Shame to see that France Gall performance in this Eurovision SC was terrible (although it was a great song from Gainsbourg), and she still won... Simone's performance was much, much better!

Oops! Never mind! Just noticed you have the placing in your description. 13th out of 18th?! OMG! She so deserved a much, much higher placing! I can't believe she only received 1 point !

Beautiful, classy lady with a stellar voice! Just beautiful!! Where are our singers of this caliber today? The only one in recent years we've sent to Eurovision, that can even come close to comparing with this performance was Vania Fernandes in 2008. I wonder how Simone placed in 1965.
