Slap in the face and punch in the stomach: high-speed video microscope imagery

This is a high-speed video footage of a man being slapped in a face and punched in the belly. Note the way the shock-wave is traveling through the skin and flesh. Also, note how deep the fist (seemingly) enters the stomach. The last two scenes show our colleague being hit in the face by a Homer Simpson plush toy.

No PhD students were harmed in the making of this film.

The original footage was sampled 4000 FPS and subsequently post-processed by standard video editing software (speed not to scale). The native resolution of the footage was 640x480 px, shutter speed 1/8000 s. The equipment used in making this video is a Keyence VW-9000 series high-speed video microscope.

This video was created by Dr. Gergely Takács, assistance provided by József Csambál, Szilárd Izsák, Roland Koščo, Slavomír Lipár and Tomáš Volenský. Special thanks to Slavomír Lipár, who volunteered for the task of the "human punchbag". Please note that these punches and slaps were not that violent as they seem judged by the slow-motion footage.
