Our documentary was completed on the globalization of alcohol. We chose alcohol as the subject of our documentary because it is something we encounter often being a college student. As we have gotten older, we have seen how the choices of alcohol have broadened due to the globalization of alcohol. There are many different drink choices to choose from that come from all across the world. We would not be able to have rum from Jamaica or beer from Germany if alcohol had not been globalized. Alcohol has also affected the economies of all cultures. Even when the economy is down, alcohol sales have increased or at least remained the same. It is a consistent part of the market system that continues to grow each and every year. Each culture is able to expand its market system through exporting their alcohol.
We portrayed our own definition of the globalization of alcohol through our video documentary. We performed interviews with various people asking them their own definition. We compiled quotes and pictures to better define what we believed about alcohol spreading across the world. Songs were chosen due to their content about alcohol. Interviews with bar owners were also included. We used pictures from across the world of people drinking because each culture is different. The maps show the distances traveled between each culture but shows that the center of the picture is still the same; the basis is alcohol. We learned a lot through this project about different cultures and their drinking habits. We also learned how to work as a team and communicate efficiently with others. Using a computer and new technologies was also a learning experience for all the group members.
