On behalf of Washington, I would like to thank The Clash for honoring our state song in such stirring fashion. Though I'm partial to Iggy's rendition myself; something about the half-staggered drunk on Slursday-Thursday sound accurately captures the spirit of Olympia. The capital, that is. Not the seat of the gods. We don't believe in Zeus or Hades; only Poseidon, but he's always pissing in our pockets and telling us it's raining. He's rarely wrong. Then again, he did side with Troy...

@thegreatNEb You obviously dont understand The Clash or what they were trying to do. They were not merely a "punk" band. Their music was an attempt to fuse together many different styles, and for the most part they succeded.
In this case they were playing a classic song that they enjoyed, and they played it very well, in my opinion. I am sorry you did not see it that way.
It is hard to believe that you or anyone could hear Joe's vocals and call this cover uninspiring.

God damn, stop analyzing so much. Unless you've played in punk rock bands and written songs, done gigs, just sit down junior with a nice tall mug of shut the fuk up. The Clash is my favorite band and they are merley having fun playing Louie Louie. Now check out my band The Giant Burritos doing it. Have some fuking fun before you die.

You aren't arguing, because your comment does not respond to anything. I wasn't hating on the Clash, or what they stood for. All I said was that I find this cover of Louie Louie directionless and uninspiring. I incorrectly remarked on the speed, and retracted it. That wasn't even my main issue. You mention rebelling against the machine, by playing one of the most popular pop songs? irony? deliberately doing a dull version to sour a 'machine favorite'? bandwagoning on the FBI case?

@thegreatNEb without the clash, i wouldn't have been exposed to other genres like dub & ska. i'm sorry but the clash are total pioneers and their fans guard them closely, it's like insulting everything they really stood for.. they were a true "punk rock" band and some people don't see that. punk was a rebellion against the machine of corporate marketing and politics of their day.. ok, i'm arguing on the internet, i should probably stop.
RIP Joe Strummer. 9 years ago this day :(
