Peak oil is actually a potential boom for local ecomomies- I can see the trends as well - from a permaculture perspective the current ecomomy is the overgrowth in the forest stifling the new innovative growth represented by relocalization- so when peak oil begins to show up as higher prices and volitility it will act like a fire in a forest- opening the canopy to new light and allowing the process of renewal to take place... it very exciting the potential but it is not going to be easy. cheers

Don't take my comments as a negative on local economies- I really respect how this man is talking and am going to get in contact with him to see how we can use this great understanding to replicate the same type of results in Australia where I am living... the essence of early comments is that for the transformation to really take off oil prices are going to have to go way up so the price drivers begin the shift the community enmasse... Thanks for the brilliant interview once again! cheers

one thing we shouldn't forget is the scale of the production is one of the major factors of cheap products- so we have increases in the price of oil- but if Walmart is able to keep their economies of scale and use energy more efficently then we will have a situation where local economies will continue to struggle to compete- relocalization is a cultural shift as well as a econmic one- as long as we remain predominantly self interested utility maximizers, local economies will struggle-

Federal, State & Local governments and corporations are in bed together. They couldn't care less any more about the "unwashed masses".

I agree with him - don't fight the globalists - but fight for fair competition !

Hey michael, very persuasive and worth persuing local, especially the idea of localizing ownership through channelling pension funds in local stock exchange - this is where Balle needs to focus. Yet what is to be done with global bankasaurs and our defective money system that is piling porks in favor of TINA, Oil, shock doctrine, war economy... Be kind to the chickens, but not to homeland security. LOIS + deep conscious capitalism!
