A more sincere, historically accurate and less adolescent way to express it would be - religion was not the underlying motivation for the majority, but provided a commonly understood rhetoric and vocabulary with which to express the otherwise purely political and economic ideas, a toolset and methodology with which to carry out reform and immediately justify policy.

Im not sphardie,well yes im am because that word means Spanish in Hebrew but im not jew,im not even catholic or muslim im just spanish but i believe in god of course but not in any religion. Sefarditas in spain had troubles of course,but also christians had it or muslims.
