Your job as a designer isn't just to mindlessly create whatever the client asks. You also have the ability to educate them about the design/purpose of what you do. I don't believe for a second that the client dismissed every good design because they kept coming back to this piece of crap design. If your company is only in the business of producing whatever garbage the client pays for, then that's also a problem, just as much as your company's inability to design a sign.
