2NE1 "Ugly" (fan made lyrics rewrite in English)

THIS IS NOT A TRANSLATION OF ANY KIND! I know like 5 Korean words, and I'm pretty sure none of them appeared in this song. XD

This is a rewrite of 2NE1's song "Ugly" done in English. I tweaked some of the English lyrics that were already in the song and added the rest myself. I didn't do this cause I think I'm an awesome singer or songwriter.

When I first watched the music video, the title made me think it would be a song with an ironic title (i don't know if that's the proper use of "ironic" XD) with a message like Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful" song. There have been a lot of stories about bullied girls (and boys). Some girls have even been bullied to the point that they commit suicide just to escape. I had got excited cause I thought 2NE1's song would have a positive message that could speak to that issue. Hearing the English in the song, though, it didn't seem to me that it did. In fact, it seemed to be the opposite. That made me sad. I've never been bullied, but I have experienced serious depression to the point that I was suicidal. In a way, I know how these girls feel.

I wrote these lyrics using the Korean version as a reference, and I didn't read a translation before I wrote the lyrics (i saw a fan made english version, but i didn't watch past the first "oh"). I wrote it letting the melody of the song, the voices of the girls, the music, and my sadness over the deaths of girls who have killed themselves because of bullying influence me.

I hate hearing those stories because I am a girl. I can honestly say I have never felt ugly in my entire life. I want to share that strength and confidence I have with others. My heart goes out to these girls and all young people everywhere whose true beauty is hidden by the ugliness that other people cover it with.

p.s. I didn't use an instrumental version of the song cause I didn't want the video to get taken down. I'm still not sure if it could still be taken down anyway. I only sang the song so people could hear how the lyrics were meant to fit over the original Korean melody. Sorry for the terrible quality, the glaring typos I need to fix, and. . .well. . .everything else. XD
