President Obama says he's not giving up on confirming Richard Cordray as Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau after the Senate blocks a vote to put Cordray in place to help protect American consumers from unscrupulous financial operators. December 8, 2011.
That a nice tie he is wearing.

Then-Obama Solicitor General Elena Kagan - since appointed to the Supreme Court by Obama - wrote to the Supreme Court on April 26, 2010: “Although a President may fill such vacancies through the use of his recess appointment power … the Senate may act to foreclose this option by declining to recess for more than two or three days at a time over a lengthy period. ”
Congress was not in recess at the time this appointment was made.

Excellent job, Mr. President. Clearly, you care about American consumers. Republicans hate them. The only thing unprecedented about this appointment is the BS flowing from Republican mouths.

It funny to me, Republicans weren't concerned with adding yet another bureaucracy when they created The Department of Homeland Security. Why didn't they recommend that the agency be ran by a board since they love boards so much?
Imagine if Democrats would have BLOCKED with threat of filibuster Tim Ridge as the first director of Homeland Security or better yet blocked anyone nominated!
