Chrono Trigger, one of, if not the best rpg of all time. Since this is a scripted review...um, want to read along with the review? Probably not since you're watching gameplay. Well, here it is anyway. Nintendo Cameron Diaz.

Developed and Published by Square
1995

Chrono Trigger is one of those games everyone loves despite the fact that it's an rpg and rpgs aren't everyone's cup of tea. There's nothing not to love about the game. Anything you might have a problem with IN an rpg is not present in this game. Combat is in active time, enemies are not random encounters that you can't even see but rather flesh and blood hostiles right there in your line of sight. The story is not just a generic save the world from bad group of heroes formula. Chrono trigger has so many twists and turns it ends up having more than a dozen different endings. Yeah, I mean 2 or 3 is already spoiling the player, even by today's standards, but, endings in the double digits!? This game's creators spared absolutely no expense. One of the great things about this game is it's not afraid to rock your world. Main characters just straight up die in this game, they don't even have to of course since this game has more plot branching than a day time soap opera that's been out since the 60s.

Chrono Trigger has a variety of playable characters the main of which is Crono, the silent protagonist ginger Rastafarian samurai. Without ruining too much of the plot, the story basically revolves around time travel in this world of Chrono Trigger that resembles out earth. You can go back to the past where there are prehistoric tribes, you can go to the future to a post apocalyptic world and so on. This plot point is also the main reason chrono trigger's environments are so well versed. You will literally be in every kind of atmosphere imaginable in this game, from medieval times to a bleak, metallic apocalypse where mankind is sick, weak, and on the brink of extinction. Basically, the entire world turns into Lindsay Lohan's career. The main driving point of the plot is to stop this apocalypse and this is what in turn drives our heroes to time travel.

Chrono Trigger's combat is pretty standard for an rpg. You have your basic attack and tech attacks which are basically magic. You can combine the tech attacks of several characters to create a double tech attack which incorporates some team work. The music of chrono trigger is some of the most memorable in any rpg. The game was originally released for the super Nintendo but later ported to the playstation and more recently to the Nintendo DS. Ports are great and all and they don't really change the game too much but I think for a genuine chrono trigger experience you have to play it on the Super Nintendo.

In today's gaming culture reviewers are quick to give rave reviews to every game by a major developer and their mother. When a game like marvel vs. capcom 3 comes out I don't even think reviewers play the game before giving it its high score. Brand recognition is very often the main deciding factor of a game's quality. This phenomena cannot be further from the truth for chrono trigger. It's loved by most people, no matter their gaming genre prefrence because of it's quality of which I hope I gave an adequate run through. Chrono Trigger for the snes gets an official Stan Burdman rating of 9.5 out of 10.

  • @MRX31605 le gasp. it's just not a good rpg D:

  • @yopoke190 i think you should go back to your modern warfare 3 camping and quickscoping people cause this game is too hard for your trailer park life .......i hope your kids come out fine even though you married your 2nd cousin dumbfuck

  • I'm going to hack this game and change all of the text to l337 5p33k.

  • I remember renting this game when I was 12. My buddy and I played it without stopping until we had finished it.

  • @yopoke190 Because your a fag...

  • @midarkmind Hi I'm 28 and felt exactly the same as you. I'm not sure how many games supercede Chrono Trigger after it had been released in 1995 but to me Chrono Trigger is always the best in our mind. It meant a lot to our generation

  • Like, seriously. Chrono Trigger is LIGHT YEARS ahead of FFVI technologically and story-wise. Just...best RPG EVER, at least behind FFVII, anyway. lol.

  • You didn't give this game a 10?!?! WHY?!?!?!? SACRILEGE!!!!!!!

Actually I shouldn't say that, simply because I've never actually played its sequel, Chrono CROSS, so IDK if this game gets better or not. (I could never get it working in EPSXE, and I was a Nintendo kid at the time...I didn't have a PSX, and I accidentally skipped the 16-bit generation, much to my regret. I jumped straight from NES to N64.)

But fuck, when I played this game, I thought it kicked the ASS of even FFVI/FFIII!

  • I love this game its my favorite in my collection . But what I hate about the game is how whiny frogs past is when you talk to him both before and after getting the sword . It makes me wish they had a skip button for that part . Other than that no flaws in this game on of the greatest games ever made right up there with Mario Mega Man Donkey Kong and many other gaming icons . By the way can you do a galaga review that was my fav arcade game the 360 port ruined it though

  • most memorable is the frog's theme and the back story that frog was actually human during the past
