I am totally blown-away by the negative attitude of this distinguished panel and I feel that they are picking this remarkable series to pieces. Yes, they are certainly entitled to their own opinions, of course, but I must stress that Richard Bates and his team put their heart and soul into the production of John Christopher's brilliant epic and this was, as many of you know, before CGI. I have had letters in the past from both the author and producer and admire them for their dedication.

@FatRoland It was supposed to be for kids and not for like this sneering old man reviewer was. John Christopher who wrote this trilogy is greatest British Sc Fi writers of all time who has been hugely influential in the genre. I don't care about the special effects are not as good as the CGI ones we have now, it was made in the 1980s for a start. It was the acting and writing was that was important both of which were brilliant.

A wonderfully sneery review. My memory of watching it as a kiddywink is the Tripods was compelling and frightening and wonderful TV.

I remember seeing this at the time (was it a show called "Did You See...?") and thinking how these people had missed the point of "The Tripods". It's interesting to remember a similar discussion on "Newsnight" about the as-yet-unbroadcast Christopher Eccleston "Doctor Who" - the reviewers were just as scathing about a show which subsequently revamped family viewing on British TV...
I've slight criticismI I hope you don't mind me saying. probably typing error, but there's a c in discussion not k.

@Professor6871
You maybe noticed... This has been posted for a GERMAN Website? ;-) So "Diskussion" is pretty correct.
