After more than a year of the devastating earthquake, Haiti still needs our help. I am writing to ask for your support in helping approximately 27 orphan children in the Nueva Esperanza Orphanage in Léogâne, Haiti. Léogâne, one of the poorest areas in the country, was at the epicenter of the 7.0 earthquake in January 2010. Nearly every building was destroyed, 30,000 people died and hundreds were left homeless. Because of the severe damages suffered many refer to it as "The Lost Town". It is in this town that the Nueva Esperanza Orphanage is presently housing approximately 27 children whom survived this tragedy. Although they have a place to stay, the children still need food, clothes, and a bed to sleep in. Many of them still sleep in tents.
A group of eight, including myself, have organized a delegation that will travel to Haiti from August 4th through 11th, 2011. We are conducting fund-raising activities to rebuild the Nueva Esperanza Orphanage building and cover children's basic needs, such as food, clothes, shoes, and school supplies.
Donations of any size are greatly appreciated and are tax-deductible through the Dominican Women's Development Center.
