Video showing a brief look at floating horse's teeth. This is a process where a Vet sedates a horse and using either a file (manual float) or a power drill (power float to even out a horse's teeth to ensure the horse can chew his feed properly. This is an often overlooked but necessary item in a horse's overall health and helps prevent colic from not chewing food properly and swallowing larger pieces of feed. Under the able hand of a good Vet, the power float is a much less invasive way to even out the teeth.
Horseygal7302, Yes the horses are given a combo sedative of Rompham (sp?) and Torbugesic (sp?). In Texas only a licensed Vet can give drugs in this class, although there are some good horse dentists who disregard this, continue to drug horses and are still use manually floating. The power floating is great; less invasive, safer and quicker as well. We do it every year. Our Vet, Amy Starr, DVM, of Paws and Hooves Mobile Vet Clinic is exceptional.
