Wow! Morris #11 completes the LONGEST play of the season: A stunning 67-yard touchdown, scrambling side to side downfield as the Steelers try to stop him. Here Morris scores the second touch down of the game! Final score 12-0 with Irvine Chargers winning against Placentia Steelers.

Watch as he spins himself around a player to avoid his flag being pulled (have to see it in slow motion).

This play was so intense! People (outside of our team) asked if they could watch this on video later, "Did you catch all that on video?" I nodded. Here it is. Go Chargers!

The Irvine Chargers flag football season (5-6 year old division) has been 99% perspiration for the team and 100% inspiration for the rest of us as the Junior Future League Blue team (8-0) impressed many on their way to winning the conference title. They defeated the top-ranked opponent and previously unbeaten Placentia Steelers 12-0 in the final playoff game of the season to secure the overall OCJAAF conference championship in Downey on Saturday.

The season numbers are impressive for any age: a combined score of 242-25; six consecutive shutouts to close the season; an eleven-player roster; six first-year players; a first-year coach and staff; five road games; and twenty-three touchdowns for RB Macarhy Morris. These young men are the future of Irvine football.

The championship game started under chilly gray late afternoon skies and finished after dark under stadium lights. The Chargers received the opening kickoff and quarterback Dean Berger drove the team 36 yards in six plays only to be turned away near the goal line by a Steelers interception. A strong defensive set, including stops by Joseph Flannigan and Kwame Willis, gave the Chargers the ball at the end of the first quarter. They were stymied again as both teams struggled to move the ball on running plays to finish the half in a scoreless tie.

The Steelers received the second-half kickoff and methodically moved the ball 43 yards into scoring position. This time a Chargers interception by Nathan Lizama changed the momentum and put them midfield. On the next play Macarhy Morris dashed 39-yards for the first score of the game just before the end of the third quarter.

The Steelers led another charge downfield in nine plays totaling 40 yards. The Chargers defense delivered as they had all season, including plays by Gabriel Pacheco, Ruben Esquibel, and a fourth-down red zone stop by Trey Solomon. The Chargers got the ball deep in their own territory. After a couple of miscues they were facing a 4th-and-7 when Morris broke an incredible 67-yard scramble to seal the Chargers victory late in the game. Solid performances by Rick Jamie, Nick Villamar, and Luke Edwards contributed to a hard-fought team effort.

The Orange County Junior All American Football Conference is the largest youth football and cheerleading organization in America, representing 28 communities throughout Orange, Los Angeles, and Riverside counties. There are thirty-one teams in the 5-6 year old division.
