Hey There Guys hope everyone is doing great out there!

This is a quick answer session on Goji berries, which comes from one of our channel viewers on our suggestions board.

Goji Berries are considered a "Superfood" because of its high mineral and vitamin contents.

There are two varieties of goji berries to our knowledge. These are "European" and "Chinese". Chinese grows smaller, european grows taller. Goji Berries usually grow between 1-3 metres tall.

The two types are "Lycium barbarum" and "Lycium chinense". The Chinese variety is much more arid hardy (grows well even in extreme weather conditions).

European variety was first introduced to the UK in the 1600's. It is widely known as "Duke of Argyll's Tea Tree", and grows well in the hedge rows of some UK counties.

DEFRA (Department For Envirnoment, Food and Rural Affairs) comissioned a report allowing a law to be passed stating that no goji berry mature plants other than that of the european species, may be brought in or grown in the UK, due to there being a great concern for them becoming "Disease Vectors" to other Solanaceae crops such as the potato and tomato.

The beneficial properties are the following. This is not an exhaustive list.

- More iron than steak
- More beta carotene than carrots
- "More" Vitamin C than oranges when talking "weight for weight".

They are thought to fight cancers, heart disease and protect from damaging sun rays.

Here is a link to a translated page on "goji berries and chrysanthemum tea" being able to cure blindness in China according to one lady there. It is a rough translation, so please be aware.

  • Any health food should have the berries =) just soak them for 24 hours and take the seeds and plant them in soil. Not very deep ! like 1cm deep. Water and cover with plastic wrap to make sure that it doesn't dry out. In no time at all you should see little spouts. Make sure to plant way more seeds then plants you that want because most of them wont sprout. I got about 20% germination rate. ENJOY =)

  • Please write me, and tell me where I can get seeds......

  • Doing well ! Love Goji berries. Pray that you are doing fine!

  • @julzbo true that. It has Anti-Coagulating effects with certain blood thinning meds. Thanks for adding that :)

  • @julzbo WARNING: Goji berries are NOT for people on Coumadin!

  • Thanks for making this vid, Chris! Think I'll start some indoors. I have considered the neighbor issue! : )

I have had good luck getting rid of fungus gnats by sprinkling diatomaceous earth on the soil indoors. It cannot be used outside w/o risk to bees and butterflies. I bought a LARGE bucket from a feed supply store ( farm supply store) for $31 USD and will look into it's many other uses.

  • @TheGreenAlzic Thanks :) Hope you are having a great day. Chris - Humble Pepper
