I am a big fan of Zachary. I don't speak French but his music transends any language barrier. This song about the changes in his culture is moving.I have cried listening to it.I have the half French half English version thankfully so my non French speaking self gets to understand what's in the lyrics.

With the arrival of public education in Louisiana in 1916, the French speaking Cajun community was confronted with forced assimilation. Cajun children whose only language was French were humiliated and often beaten in schools in an attempt to eradicate their maternal tongue. Zachary Richard's song is based on the experience of his parents. For over a generation, he has led the effort to preserve and promote Cadien/Cajun culture and the French language of Louisiana.
