When Tomi first came here, she was so weak she couldn't fly fast, make banks, or take a quick pause in mid-air... now look at her go!

  • Erm...did you put sugar in her water? :P

My Phoenix can't fly because he picked up the habit feather plucking, and, well...he...plucked out his flight feathers.

  • LOL! No, no sugar! It probably felt good for her to fly as she used to be stuck in a finch cage and nearly starved to death, not to mention she was a "chronic egg layer". I've got another tiel here though that mutilates... she cna't fly either.

  • Chronic egg layer? Does that mean she over-laid? o_O

  • Before I saved her, she was laying eggs, and the eggs would be removed, and she'd lay more. I got her at about 56 grams (possibly less, if that didn't include the food she ate the previous night). She's now 90 some grams and very flighty!

  • What--how old was she when you got her?!

Phoenix is about 2, and a good 72 grams.

  • I don't know how old she is... she was found in someones yard and was kept for the novelty of having a bird.... nothing more... They named her Tom, only fed and watered her when they remembered, then kept her covered most of the time because she was "too noisy"... she became a chronic egg layer and they, like I said, nearly starved her to death, before I took her... I don't know of her history beyond that sadly.

  • Mines does that to, but it wont land as good as yours, it gets tired and falls down from the air like a shooted helicopter

  • Wha...hu...feh...shu...

Starved...her...? Only...fed...and...watered when...remembered? Kept just for the novelty of having a bird?

Knowing this brings tears to my eyes. It's nearly unthinkable that this perky, energetic bird is the same one who suffered so much.

  • i have had my cockatiel for almost a year and he still cant fly

  • i wish that i could have one :( nice vid :)
