Fact of the day - Nina Simone's biggest hit, "Feeling Good", wasn't written by her (or any black artist), it was written by a couple of JEWS - Leslie Bricusse & Anthony Newley. I wonder why Mos Def left THAT out of this song. LOL

The privilege of historiography. Mos Def reacts to the linear rock history written by TPTB, ie. White-centric viewpoint. We go from one White icon/trail-blazer to another, feel complacent/safe, educated, even morally home-free throwing a quick mention in Chuck, et al's ways. But when Mos Def strings together an lineage of linear bedrock of rock history, built on back of Black artists, suddenly he's a problematic, failed "musicologist" "blind" to cyclical, convoluted ways inspirations travel IRL.

Perhaps because they are not the artists?

I don't think is was the purpose of all the white and black musicians (Bo diddley/Elvis Presley/Little Richard/The Rolling Stones/John Coltrane/Mos Def) to get heavy discussions about who is better (black/white).. just enjoy the music

gotta love the old-school hardcore punk at the last 1/4 of the song.

Good job on upvoting some Stormfront-bred Aryan sympathizing racist (just check his profile) to the top comment for making some point that doesn't disprove anything in the song, just nitpicks that Nina Simone's biggest hit was written by Jews, because Simone covering a song by artists she respected (I'm sure they collected royalties) can be compared to stolen writer credits and genre wide ripping off of artists without acknowledgement.

I just looked her up and it doesn't seem like she was a part of the early black rock n roll artists?
