Grangetown History Society had a boat trip in July 2011 from Cardiff Bay along the River Ely, looking at how the riverside landscape of Grangetown and the Bay area has changed in recent years. The Ely is not a river often part of the tourist trips, so they asked Ben Salter of The Open Boat company to take members on board his boat Daffodil. Captain Ben's local knowledge was appreciated. As well as new apartments, the growing number of yachts and the recently opened Pont-y-Werin bridge, there were a few surviving points of historical and local interest.
