I got this little desktop PC for only $5 but it was missing most of the components. With the addition of some junk box parts, I have assembled it into a tiny but competent Windows XP workstation. The CPU is a VIA C3 based on the Samuel 2 core (a descendant of the IDT WinChip). The PC Chips motherboard calls it "1 Giga Pro", but it is actually only 667 MHz. It has a full assortment of legacy and USB 1.1 ports, but the lack of any expansion slots limits its upgrade potential.

  • sounds a lot like an IDT Centaur WinChip. low clock speed, low power, and not too much heat was produced. Did you ever use or own a machine with a winchip? I had one and I'd say it was like using a fast 486, Not quite Pentium 133 speed.

  • @IamFat32 Like I wrote in the video description, the VIA C3 processor is a direct descendant of the WinChip.

  • Seeing this video again, it seems that you have only 248MB of RAM, which indicates that the on-board graphics (if any graphics haha) controller is reserving RAM. Do you know the chipset or graphics controller on this PC?

  • @ceracecar Everything has to be "on-board", because there are no slots! I don't recall offhand which graphics chipset it uses, but it definitely does "steal" some of the main system RAM for use as the video RAM.

  • I've got what I think is the book pc 1, but i cant find any info about it at all

  • Nice computer, it's one of my favorites because it's small and portable, but the HP E-PC Series is smaller and more powerful then that so that's my other favorite, i don't know why VIA made their CPUs run like crap because the C3 667 MHz runs simaler to a Pentium MMX 233 MHz CPU, 256MB of RAM isn't enough to run XP with SP3, downgrade it to SP1 or RTM to make it run faster, if not the install Windows 2000 on it, it should run good on a C3 667 MHz

  • Now I have a Commodore 64C!

  • Nice video! Never knew that VIA marketed CPUs.

  • hey i have an old i giga pro cpu as well apparently with some old crap boards they would send that cpu with the board.

  • Sim city 3 song? in your computer ^^?
