can someone explain to me why they go for the surface when you throw seawater on them? when they are surrounded by seawater anyway?

Because there's quite a force pulling back down into the sand. The clam interior seems to almost leave the shell in an effort to burrow back into the sand. I guess I wait for the meat to return to shell and at this point its easy to pull out - takes a few secs

These razor clams are huge. But one question: why don't you grap one quickly as soon as it comes out?

@martinagardiner . Hi. Thanks for your suggestions. I will certainly try on those dates and report back. I am looking forward to cooking some up with white wine, garlic and a few herbs. They are supposed to be delicious!

They're a bit creepy looking. Reminds me of 'Alien' the way they shoot out. Still, I bet they taste damn good!

That looks like fun. Must give it a go in Culdaff over the weekend. Just need a video now on how to cook them!!
Hi, The tide is full out when razor clam hunting. To catch them - the best time for success is when the sea is about to come back in on them The saltwater simulates the tide coming in and they think its safe to come out. They pop out and you grab!

I've been trying to find some of these little beauties at Rossbeigh beach nr Glenbeigh, Co Kerry but so far they have been evading me! There are plenty of 'empty' shells about so they must be lurking somewhere?

@chubchubchubber - Hi, I tried quite a few times b4 I got lucky. If there are shells there are razor clams - fact! The next spring low tide is June 15th. However, August 31st is the lowest for a few months (much higher chance of getting them). Try these days. Go out a good 40mins b4 lowest tide. Walk beach from one end to the other. Look for holes like those in video & also for squirts of water a couple of feet in the air. Good luck!!
