Rare and charming song by inexplicably forgotten post-punk band The Dolly Mixture, with drawings by English illustrator Aubrey Beardsley (1872-1898).

  • But for something really surreal check out

Kahimi Karie - Dilly Dally Dolly.

    Japan follows East Anglia!

  • What an unlikely cover - I wonder if she knows it's about staying home and drinking tea? I'm (slowly) researching the idea of writing a book on the Dolly Mixture...I wonder if you might be able to help me out...?

  • I'm always surprised at how little-known they are, far more interesting than a lot of their contemporary girl groups (most of whom I also think are great, mind you), the Dolly Mixture have such an amazing collection of songs - most people have the Demonstration Tapes, but a lot of their best stuff isn't there. Well worth hunting down all the EP's.

  • You should definitely write a book! The world needs to know how amazing these girls were.... I am doing my best to promote under-rated lady music makers on The Girls Are... blog. You should contribute an article, especially if you have access to some of their tracks that are harder to find on the internet?

  • Great! I'll have a look and see if I can contribute something..

  • Lovely.

  • I love the Fireside EP, just reminds me of a wonderful winter Sunday afternoon for some reason!

I remember playing pool with Rachel in about 1982 when they were on tour supporting Orange Juice and we swapped plectrums (me being a fellow guitarist) and had a long and interesting chat about all sorts. They were a great band and very, very lovely people.
