  • when i saw this in the sidebar, i thought to myself "I've never seen a grandma playing jazz guitar before"

  • I recently exposed my oldest son (26) to Larry Coryell..... First I played one of his more accessible songs, that some of you may know, called "Sex", from either 69 or 70, I believe. He sings the word loudly, emphatically and many times., but its a burner of a song. Then I showed him these lesson videos of him, & he was dumbfounded that they were the same guy! My son has been playing for 12 years, 5 yrs under the tutelage of a Jazz instructor, & he is quite good. Now I introduce greats to him.

  • @GCEzel Why have I thought Juan all this time?, heck I have the album. >>>>>Commit to remaining Memory<<<<<

  • @painxtreme You meant "Antonio Carlos Jobim". He was the one who wrote Girl from Ipanema.

    Cheers.

  • @GuitarOddysey LOL " he is a good player" wow I am sure he is relieved to hear you say that.

  • @painxtreme I do need to correct myself on an earlier point. Paco de Lucia didn't write "Girl from Ipanema", it was Juan Carlos Jobim, who Larry and others have also played with many times, including Stan Getz

I enjoy de Lucia's playing as much as Jobim, but in a different way, and trusting that you know your Jazz, I think you could appreciate that. If we ever talk guitar again, which looks doubtful, Id like to talk Django. You didn't again repeat yourself. You merely repeated once.

  • @GuitarOddysey You miss my point, and you can stay silent if you choose. Did I not agree that there is deeper stuff than what he is showing? My point is, though not demonstrated here, he has the versatility to play in the styles of those you mention. You nearly make him sound like a hack, and I wont leave that unchallenged. "I love Larry, but", "She has a nice personality, but". One must remember, these are advanced techniques to the vast majority of students that buy these videos

  • @painxtreme again, i repeat myself, he's a good player, i'm just saying that there are other, deeper levels of rhythm guitar that are possible beyond this type of strumming. i have no more to say.

  • what is that song at 1:28?

  • @GuitarOddysey He's played with the best, and he has never been a Flamenco player in anything Ive listened to, but the guy plays with McLaughlin and for Pete's sake, Paco de Lucia, the guy who saw The Girl From Ipanema. Here Larry is showing accompanying rhythms, beat emphasis on the 4, and ABCs of upstroke/downstroke, and finger plucking vs plectrum...in other words he is playing very dumbed-down here, and surely you know he is thousands of levels above what you're seeing here, dont you?
