This is my 1990 Chrysler Imperial - The second attempt at buying a car for my ex... except I broke up with her a few months later, and the car's sat at my parent's place for the past 3 or 4 years. Hoping to get it on the road this year. She needs an alternator, and the air suspension pump needs repaired.

  • thanks for sharing, i own a 91 imperial with the 3.3 and 196,000 miles, runs and shifts excellent. although the pin in the differential gave way so had to have a new diff and pin installed in the transmission, the rear air ride still works although the pump is loud. All in all the ride is superb!!!!!

  • Whats that humming at 0:40

  • @1962RS I appreciate your comment. Years ago, I had a 1990 Chrysler New Yorker. Like you say, the engine was very good, but I had nothing but trouble with the transmission. Sent it back to the shop 3 times and they could never get it to function right. It was such a headache I got rid of the car and bought an '88 Park Avenue. Didn't have as much digital gadgetry, as with the New Yorker, but the Park Ave never ever gave me a moment of trouble.

  • I always loved the Chrysler Imperial...as well as the 2 New Yorker variants below it.

    I'm a sucker for 80s and 90s Mopars

Take good care of it as these Imperials are rare nowadays.

  • @1962RS

Well, Chrysler did start putting more modern gizmos when they launched the Concorde in 1993. That was when they started competing with Lexus.

The only car like this one more recently was the last generation Lincoln Town Car (which I never got used to) now bit the dust in favor of the MKS, which looks bigger and better IMHO.

The Imperial, however, is better than one of those newer Town Cars.

  • These cars look somewhat good for their time but the quality was crap. The engine ( 90) was very reliable but the tranny was junk from the start. Shame Chrysler let their flagship model die a shameful death. This could have been a sweet car if they dressed it with more modern gizmos and at least allow for a more unique design instead of putting a hat and coat over a New Yorker.

  • @gimaj90 Sure it's first gear? I bet it's stuck in "limp home" mode - the transmission computer locks it into second gear when it detects a fault so that you can at least drive the car home. Mine does this when it's REALLY cold, and restarting the car will clear it, and it works fine after that. If it's doing it ALL the time, than the transmission probably needs rebuilt, though it could be a sensor or wiring problem as well.

  • @general0ne Ooops... The car now has a huge problem with the transmission... It doesn't release the First Gear!! I didn't have a camcorder with me when I went to see the car again... Too bad!! :(

  • @general0ne Well... Maybe if the seller wants to go to get copies of titles... I hope so... But something is not right... I don't know why, but I suspect that this person did some illegal movement with this car... Of course I hope I'm wrong!

  • @gimaj90 Is the car registered in Mexico or the US? I know in my state, we can get a replacement title if it is lost. Don't know about other states or Mexico though I would think you would be able to. You should still see if you can get a video of it!
