The Parramatta Female Factory was Australia's first women's refuge, a place where women were kept out of sight, out of mind, incarcerated behind its high walls.

  • Should be burned, and just the shell left, as symbol of memorial. For my mother was "interned" in Brisbane. The shell should be just the walls as a reminder that it should never be allowed to occur again. Leaving only the walls, the roof burned as a symbol for all those tortured within its walls, the roof gone symbolises that we the Australian people would never allow abuse to be covered again. Thats what I think they should do with it.

  • Amazing post - thank you!

Have you written your novel? Would love to know the title. One of my ancestors visited the Female Factory several times after being transported - eager to read anything on what life may have been like for her and others.

  • I liked it 5 stars

  • This is really good work, ArtAngel22. I am writing a novel that involves the Parramatta Female Factory. Where does your interest stem from? Thanks for this evocative piece.
