Rotorua is the heartland for New Zealand's Maori people. A must-see in Rotorua is the Maori Cultural Experience. This clip is a rendition of the famous Maori love song, 'Pokarekare Ana'. Look up the English translation of the lyrics, it will truly touch your heart :))

  • YOu know what?!!

I'm from Korea, and i remember listening to this song sung by my parents

when I was a little kid!!

and even nowadays, young Korean uni students, they sing this song

when they go and sit down by the beach!

First time I went to NZ last month, and I heard this song in Rotorua, freaked out and bought a CD with all the famous maori songs

the lyrics are even exactly the same!

MAD!!! I had no idea we borrowed(?)

this lovely song from the Maoris :)

I love them even more now

  • Aroha mai, Aroha atu... I know this girl and she is an extremely talented performer, as I understand it, it was her first night doing the solo there and she wasn't that confident as you can tell by the loss of pitch and nervous vibrato... but she is still a competent performer and a beautiful person... It's not the easiest to get up in front of people and sing - judging by some of the comments, it's harder when the audience is from your own race... Mauri Ora ne?

  • What it doesn't show is what they do in their spare time... Steal things

  • @dogyearrex I can remember as a child my koro (grandfather) and uncles would talk about thr war days n Korea..how their company tort the Koreans Pokarekare Ana.. it was said if they sang the love song near the moana (sea, water)the waves and wind would carry the waiata (song) to the Wairua of Aotearoha (spirit of NZ) and their arms would embrace the love between the two... The Waiata was a gift from our Ancestors to yours. even tho ths generation has lost that knowledge the Wairua hasn't.
