Solar System: Venus

Venus is the second planet and orbits the sun every 224.7 Earth days. Our brightest night object (other than the moon), it appears early every evening and glows brightly just before dawn winning it the twin appellations of "Evening Star" and "Morning Star." Venus was the goddess of love, the Roman equivalent of the Greek goddess Aphrodite. Of the nine classic planets, Venus is the only one named for a woman. The others are all masculine, though a pair of dwarf planets -- Ceres and Eris -- also bear female names. The music is from Gustav Holst's seven-movement orchestral suite, The Planets Op. 32. This particular movement is called "Venus, the Bringer of Peace."

This is wonderful! The art is beautiful. The books had me smiling... Arthur Clark... C.S. Lewis... :) The shots of Venus are sooo coool! ..rather, seething hot!

I'm amazed at the ability of space vessels to process such clear footage of Venus. The atmospheric pressures are crushing, with clouds that rain sulfuric acid, and temperatures hot as 900 degrees F!
