Rainbow - 'Family Ties' (part 1)

When Geoffrey receives a phone call telling him that grandad has had an accident and is in hospital. He tells Bungle, Zippy and George that he will have to go up to the hospital and that he will take them to stay at auntie's house for the night. Geoffrey takes them to auntie's in his car. Bungle has some flowers for her and George has made a get well card for grandad, but Zippy isn't very happy at going to stay with auntie and would rather stay at home. When they arrive at auntie's house Zippy is disappointed that he'll have to miss his favourite cartoon as she doesn't own a TV set. Also he doesn't like the sausages she's cooked them for their tea.

I remember that scene with Geoffrey driving in his blue car with Zippy, George and Bungle. I'm sure it was also in another episode though.

I remember it too! Geoffrey has said in an interview that it was very difficult to film as it was a real squash for them all!! It's a shame they didn't do more location filming on Rainbow, but I suppose Zippy and George were the problem and would have slowed everything down... :-) There was that funny camping episode and the one where they go exploring in the countryside but I know of no other 'outdoor' episodes or even episodes with filmed inserts (such as this one) involving all the puppets.

There was one other episode I can remember that had some parts filmed out on location. It was from around 1986 and in the episode Geoffrey takes Zippy and George to the theatre to see the panto Peter Pan. Unfortunately I don't have this episode though. :(

That scene in the back of the car is so funny. Why does George have his seat belt up around his neck like that? He'll strangle himself!
