  • I'm from Iowa (YAY!) and utterly heart broken over Maine, which is supposed to have so few religious citizens per capita! But, I think that much of the reason is the word "marriage" to even non-religious heteros, due to the dewy-eyed Brides and Grooms who want to reserve it as something special just for them; they can't seem to stomach the thought of two men or two women "mocking" their ceremony. *sigh* Why do they think they NEED to tyrannically vote against a minority, though?

  • sigh

  • To answer your question:

The non religious argument is semantic: Marriage means the union between a man and a woman.

  • Why?

  • I just found out about prop 1 this morning, and the only thing I could do was facepalm and say "not again"

I'm from Pennsylvania, and I'm gay.

I followed the prop 8 campaigns very closely and even though I live on the opposite coast of the US, I was absolutely devastated. I feared that this kind of thing would soon follow, and now here it is. The gay community have worked so hard to gain these rights, and now they are being stripped away from them.

I wish Maine the very best of luck. NO ON 1!

  • then spread the word man! We shouldn't let the parasite of ignorance leech of us!

  • IFCSAT,

.You disgust me for wanting to deny an innocent humans right. The bible only carries one verse that is against gays. Levitucus 20:13. "When man layeth with mankind like he would womankind, both are an ABOMINATION and both shall be put to death."

ABOMINATION for the time the bible was written meant against tradition. If you know, this country is not so fond of tradition anymore.

  • Great silence majority: I'm not against "Civil Union" I believe LGBT couples should have the same rights as married couples. But I don't believe the union of such couples should be redefined as "marriage". That is religious term. I am not religious, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to stand up for a belief I don't agree with. Any group that tries to elbow their way into something that was never their place to belong in the first place is out of line. Sorry...

  • Good video, and you're right. It's all about religion. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland ME accounts for 81% of in-state fund-raising to fight Equal Marriage.

  • Hi Lycan, youre very pretty and intelligent :)

I agree 100% with every word you said in your video. Im a gay woman from the Netherlands (where we have gay marriage since 2001) and wondering how long this torture is gonna continue in the US. Its hard to watch this happening in a so-called democratic country and have religion decide what others cant or cannot do. I hope this whole issue goes to the SC, or that your federal government will deal with it, properly. Best of luck.

  • That is the way the language evolved, and I understand there were many different organizations but all of them involved people of different genders.
