The Pirate Party first began in Sweden. However, soon the international pirate party movement took off.


The German Pirate Party won 8.5% of the vote in Sunday's Berlin state elections, winning its first seats in the state legislature.


The SDP and German Green party did well and will probably form a coalition, but the Pirate Party will add a new voice to German politics.


The party's platform calls for the decriminalization of downloading, free internet in cities and the legalization of marijuana.


It's not the first wacky party to make a splash in Europe. Jon Gnarr became Mayor of Reykjavic on promises of open corruption and a polar bear.

    They're not a "wacky party". They may have an amusing name, but they are serious activists who really do believe these policies are important to personal freedom. Hardly comparable to a mayor elected on the promise of "open corruption and a polar bear".

    Hochchinesisch ? Die keifende China-Lady sollte mit deutschen Koalitionsabsichten vertraut sein, natürlich hat die SPD (SDP) kein Interesse mit den Piraten zu koalieren, solange sie mit der CDU noch ne sündteure Stadtautobahn-Strecke zuende bauen kann.

    Ebenfalls dumm+schlimm wie Gauck jetzt pathetisch-kindisch mit Timoschenko in der Ukraine symphatisiert+die Fußball-Fans beinahe zum Boykott der EM dort aufruft, Timoschenko ist noch immer Milliardärin+wurde von ihren Ukrainern 2009 abgewählt.
