The Post Office actually provides a benefit to the public. The Big Banks such as JPMorgan and Bank of America do not.

~~~^~^~^~^In 2006 REPUBLICAN legislators mandated that the U.S. Postal Service(USPS) begin a 10 yr process of pre-paying all health & retirement benefits for all employees it may hire up to 75 yrs from now! THE GOAL: To create the ILLUSION that USPS, a NON tax payer funded profit making agency, is on the verge of FINANCIAL COLLAPSE! REPUBLICANS want to lay off 125,000 AMERICANS & PRIVATIZE USPS .~~^~^~^~^~^^^^^^ REPUBLICAN RACKETEERING & GREED ARE DESTROYING AMERICA!
@prescottbillAs for the labor costs of USPS v Fedex ,Ups, I would be interested to know how much of that labor cost is for management / private consultants as opposed to carriers , clerks, etc. The clerk craft lost over 100,000 employees who were not replaced - I bet management lost 1% , if that . There are 28 VP's of various depts in L'enfant Plaza in DC! Even if they force 100,000 more clerks/mailhandlers to retire, management will be top heavy-that's a problem and is not addressed in the news
@doogleandalix Saving FRNs for the future is a losers game. Invest in self sufficiency and at least you will have a chance in the future.
As far as the USPS goes, look at the labor cost of Fedex and UPS, it is half the USPS. The monopoly is in standard letter delivery which is a dying business. I think they will survive, but it will be a much smaller and leaner USPS. Our letter delivery is by a private contractor, more ATMs are popping up at alt. sites, etc...
@prescottbill I'm afraid you may well be right , but how do you prepare for such a thing ? Even if you have savings, it is worth less daily .The disgusting part is that (mis)management cost the PO a lot of $.There is approx a 4:1 ratio of supervisor to employee-that's crazy .Above you said the PO is a thing of the past - not really,package mail is way up. Lots of sales on Ebay - all delivered by USPS. Increase in online shopping & a computer can't deliver your packages to you:)
@doogleandalix Won't matter anyway. After the collapse everything will be reset. Friend of mine was getting a $80K+ pension as a former airline pilot. Company went BK and so did the pension. Now the govt. pays him $24K as his total pension. He had to take a $60K haircut. The same will happen to govt. and quasi govt. employees. In fact, all govt. promises will be broken after the collapse. Prepare now while you still can.
@prescottbill the USPS would have made a profit had they not been the only entity mandated by Congress ( under George Bush ) to prefund future retirees health benefits even though the fund has enough $ in it til 2037 !The USPS overpaid into the Federal Employees retirement fund to the tune of about $50 billion! Issa claims they did not overpay even though 2 audits proved so-in other words , the govt. "borrowed "the $ -they use the Postal service as a cash cow to make the deficit look lower.
-
@wanker89 Please consider Ron Paul instead of third party - he is actually a libertarian running on the Republican ticket because of the flawed system .As a union member, I am appalled at the union busting tactics of Issa and his ilk. He wants to force out the senior people - can't you just see the age discrimination lawsuits coming ?Issa is questionable character at best -check him out . The Postal Service receives no tax dollars , despite common belief that they are taxpayer supported.
Your right soon you guys will pay them billions a year to run there business in your country and it will have to go that way because they get massive tax breaks now and they cant go backwards. love your vids
Go get your gun Clavin!!!! I don't need any more stupid junk mail. Feel free to take Saturday off. "man who knew too much eh? Nagell is laughing at you. see you on the "postal" network.
How about Ron Paul? There are some things i don't agree with, but his message has always been the same. The fact that major media is ignoring him makes him even a better prospect for 2012.
@ziradith Ask yourself how much exposure he has gotten by supposedly being ignored.
