How the internals of the refreshable Braille machine work - 1st prototype in laser-cut Acrylic. The rods that rest on top of the gearing are not shown, so you can see the gears in action. Normally, the moving gear would shift individual rods forward/backward to position Braille dots under a window, which can then be felt. And of course the speed is far slower than the final version's - Acrylic is too flexible for high speed movements of the stepper motors.
