Russian President Medvedev meets with Pope Benedict XVI

During his visit to Italy, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev met with Pope Benedict XVI for the first time.

The Russian president who took office in 2008, has said in the past he plans to help reconcile the relationship between Moscow and the Vatican.
