Well the most recent firmware, FW 2.40, allows custom music to be played, but the game developers have to enable it in their games in order for that to happen. So far, only Super Stardust can play custom music. More games will be patched in the future (like Burnout Paradise) and games coming out will most likely have custom music (like smackdown vs raw 2009)
You can, however, play music and browse the internet :)
